Historically, Southern Venezuela has alternated between neglect and attention on the part of Venezuelan rulers, both of which have had negative and positive results. During the past 20 years, the Chavista narcostate has shown fluctuating levels of attention particularly when both Chavez and Maduro were keen to find new sources of money.

Recent satellite images (May 2018 reveal and confirm the location of the illegal mining site Maraya inside YAPAKANA National Park in Amazonas State (Venezuela) where any type of mining is forbidden in the 1999 Constitution of Venezuela. Criminal illegal mining in this state is not only allowed but exploited by the Venezuelan Armed Forces, in particular by the regional command REDI Guayana.
#sosorinoco pic.twitter.com/P60GlEidXK — SOS Orinoco (@SOSOrinoco) May 19, 2018
This past week the presence of ELN guerrillas has been confirmed in the the town of Guasipati, Edo. Bolivar. This is far east of the border between Colombia and Venezuela, confirming what has long been suspected and rumored, that the government of Venezuela has lost control of our national sovereignty and has probably made a deal with the ELN, allowing it to make incursions way inside Venezuelan territory.
Recently we denounced the abuses occurring in the state of Amazonas, Venezuela at the confluence of the Orinoco, Atabapo and Guaviare Rivers.
On #WorldHealthDay2018 we would like to draw attention to the plight of the indigenous peoples of Venezuela who are the most vulnerable in the current health crisis that is affecting the entire country and has recently exploded onto the international scene.
The region where three major rivers – Orinoco, Atabapo & Guaviare Rivers – come together in Amazonas State in Venezuela is controlled by the FARC with the blessing and collusion of the Bolivarian National Guard/@GNBoficial, the Bolivarian Armed Forces/#FANB and of course, Nicolas Maduro.
