In this update of the report published in August 2020, recent data is presented on the human rights situation of the indigenous peoples that inhabit the RBAOC, with emphasis on the health and health care issues, as well as the continued and increasing invasion of illegal miners “garimpeiros” from Brazil. In addition, the recent events that occurred in Parima B are addressed, where military troops violently attacked Yanomami inhabitants, with the unfortunate balance of 4 indigenous people dead and 5 injured.

The invasion of garimpeiros from Brazil, at the headwaters of the Orinoco River, is particularly serious and worrying due to the high level of social and environmental damage it is causing.
