Aracamuni 2

This video is of a flat view of the Digital Globe March 15 2018 very high resolution satellite image of Cerro Aracamuni in Serranía La Neblina National Park, Amazonas State, which is a Protected Area within the Biosphere Reserve of the Alto Orinoco Casiquiare, where all mining is ILLEGAL. One of the three mining areas inside the park is visible and reveals many aspects of illegal mining: the small blue and black squares are the roofs of the miners’ living quarters and where the gold mineral is processed. This is a very isolated place that is obviously stocked by Venezuelan army helicopters that land in the make-shift heliport also visible in this image/video. Army helicopters provide machinery and other necessary provisions for mining and the miners, and they also are used to smuggle out the gold. The river and the riverbed have also been affected by deforestation and the removal of earth leaves large dark ponds of water. This illegal mine is controlled and exploited by the Colombian FARC & ELN Guerrillas. The estimated size of these mines is 50 hectares.
